Another blast from the past… Sydney Mods from the Quarryman and the Lismore crowds…Fanzines, Paul ‘Modfather’ Weller articles… I was only a peripheral Mod, liking the music but not joining in with the fashions. But I have these fanzines, see, and a scanner…

One of those crazy things ‘lost’ in time. Imagine 1950s holiday makers taking a dip right here, a Catalina flying boat perched in the centre of this lake… and a bit later in time a 2.1km motor racing circuit just behind the embankment… all in the catchment of a World Heritage listed area in scenic but quite suburban Katoomba. Bizarre, or what?
The metal framework that held the Catalina in place is still visible in the lake, btw. And the motor-racing circuit is pretyy well intact, give-or-take. It’s scary-narrow!

Just ticked over 1,000km on the new Felt F-75 but I’m riding the F-50 most days now. Difference? The F-75 feels faster but there’s nowt much b’tween ‘em. I put any advantage down to the F-75′s radially-spoked (and stiffer) front wheel.
It’s an interesting (and increasingly common) career path, from Olympic rower to ProTour cyclist – and a successful one for Tasmanian Cameron Wurf.
Aussie Wurf Gets Classics Opportunity At Androni Giocattoli | Cyclingnews.com
While making a Paris-Roubaix debut is a dream for any professional, Wurf’s program could get even better if he continues to impress the team’s management. His program will be decided in time, but Wurf believes he will contest Liège – Bastogne – Liège and La Fléche Wallonne where he wants to prove he’s worthy of a Giro d’Italia start.

In cycle sport bulking up doesn’t help much at all, unless perhaps you are a track sprinter. So when a roadie or MTBer gets pinged there’s usually a different story; often it’s a desire to come back quickly after an injury. The alternative explanation is that a testosterone patch helps post-race or heavy training load recovery, something that is unproven but widely believed. Unproven it may be, however if you do believe it works, for you it probably does. It’s that old mind-over-matter thing.

We’ve read about it, and like most of us he knows the theory. But is it for real? Like tadpoles growing into frogs, caterpillars turn into butterflies. Yeah, right. As if. So we carefully captured a fat stripey caterpillar and temporarily relocated him/her/it from a ficus in a pot to a plastic bug holder. Within 2 days we had a lumpy blobby chrysalis that dried overnight to a dramatic gold sheen. And a week or so later emerged a Common Crow butterfly (black with white spots). Theory turned into practice, we let the butterfly flutter by, off to sip nectar somewhere nice….
