Drum roll, please. My all-time most popular image on the Flickr servers (as rated by viewer numbers) is… oh dear. The same time, same place, same deal as number 2. Yep, it’s that rally car – a VW Golf – again. It’s on the roof of a shopping centre in Sydney’s suburbs, in 1979. It’s not exactly my favourite pic, but it draws a lot of visitors. Go figure.

This is getting embarrasing and a bit bizarre. Here’s a shot I took of a rally car in 1979 – on top of a shopping centre, no less, and it’s my all-time number 2 at Flickr. Funny what people are interested in. (Yeah, OK, I was interested enough to be there and take the pic at the time, but I don’t search for similar photos now!)

OK, so number 3 is really the same as number 5, but with a different body. It’s the rear transaxle of an ’80s model Alfa Romeo. Technically interesting – but it’s just a scan of the Alfa Romeo brochure… why is it number 3?

Well it’s an action shot, and a bit fuzzy. It’s a road car – again that darned Alfa – pretending to be a racer… and it’s at a track that’s destined to close RSN (in 2009). Is that what has driven this shot to Number 5?

I have no idea why this figures so highly. Is it the bike? The location (Sydney Airport)? The year (1978)?
